1st Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young. But set an example to the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
Growing up, I admit, can be hard. As an 19 year old, I’ve passed the childish ways (some of them!) and have not yet reached the adult ways of life. As most teenagers as well, we face situations in life and we don’t know where to turn. The fact is that though we are young – God still cares for us, loves us, and is with us every step of the way.
This verse is the “foundation verse” for the following day’s devotionals. It was written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy who was the overseer at the church in Ephesus, which Paul wrote to encourage Timmy in the faith. Timothy was the “assistant pastor” of the church and it was his responsibility to be a good example while the “senior pastor” (Paul) was away. However, today we look at this verse in a different light. We might not be pastors or leaders, but as believers we are to set a good example to believers and non-believers alike.
Over the next few days we will be looking at young people in the bible from David (who fought Goliath), Mary (the mother of Jesus), to some people that seem to be “unknown,” or not mentioned often.
I encourage you to, before each days devotional, to pray and ask God to show you what HE wants you to see in each of these young biblical teens lives. It may be my words/thoughts in these e-mails but I want God to impart divine truths into your lives so that you can live a life of courage, faith, and purity.
My challenge to you is this: memorize 1st Timothy 4:12. Use it to encourage yourself to realize that though we are young – God still have huge plans for our lives!
