Preparing for Impact

by Trisha Bleau Smith

As summer draws to an end and stores begin to bring out their school supplies and back to school clothese we begint o realize that our sleeping in is soon to end. Once again we’ll be up early, headed out the door for yet another school year. Now is the time to start planning your impact for God on your campus. What will you do that lets people know Christ is in you?

Keep in mind – no matter how much “planning” you do if it is not God’s will it won’t happen. Be sure to pray about your plans, commit them to God, and if it is His will He will open the doors for you.

So what kind of planning can you do for the next year? How can you be prepared for another school year?

First off, and most importantly of all, begin praying now. Pray for how God is going to use you on your campus. Pray for your school, for safety, for hearts to be softened, for God to raise up people who will show others what true Christianity is about, etc. Pray for the Christians on campus to be bold, for them to be able to take a stand for Christ and share Him with all of the campus. Perhaps you can recruit some friends and prayer walk your school before it opens.

Next begin practicing. Look for opportunities to share Jesus in everything you do. For example, you are talking to someone and they comment on what a beautiful day it is. You respond with “Yes, God did a great job, didn’t He?” or something along those lines. Find those opportunities to bring God into the picture and into the conversation.

Start thinking of ideas you could use during the school year.

Consider ideas like:

  • meeting regularly for prayer at a designated place (flag pole, library, before games at the gates, etc.)
  • plan activities and meetings that would be fun and inviting for non Christians. Draw them in with the fun and share the Gospel sometime.
  • Form a Christian club if your campus doesn’t already have one.

These are just a few things you can do. There are lots of things you can find to do on campus to make your group and yourself more visible as Christians. Talk to your school principal when you go back to school and see what you can do and what needs to be done. Use your imagination, talk to others and share ideas.

Remember, the key focus should be on Jesus. Live for Him and let others see Him in you. He will open the doors and give you opportunities to share Him with others. Just be prepared.
