Devotion: Psalm 148:2

April 13, 2025

Psalm 148:2 Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all his heavenly hosts.

Today’s verse comes from a psalm of praise. It is a call to action that encourages all creation to praise our Maker. We see in this psalm, just as we have in others, that all creation is to praise His Name, not just people. It shows us that everything, both natural and spiritual, are called to offer praise.

Verse 2 specifically addresses worship by the spiritual world. In this verse we see that even the angels praise Him. We see that His greatness and glory deserve praise universally from everyone and everything. He values the worship of every living creature, including the heavenly hosts.

Who are the heavenly hosts? This term refers to all the celestial beings that serve God. They are surrounding His throne in heaven (1 Kings 22:19). Their primary role is to worship and serve Him. Seeing what their role is, shouldn’t we respond similarly? We should prioritize worship in our own lives. Our praise should join that of the heavenly hosts.  The call to worship extends to everything- the celestial beings, people, and every creature. In the psalms we often see even the elements engaged in worship (Luke 19:40).

We are reminded that praise is not a personal act we engage in whenever we are in the mood. It is not something we do only on Sundays and maybe on Wednesdays. It is so much more than a once a week behavior. It is daily, hourly, even minute by minute. Everything we do should glorify our God, honor His name, and point others to Him.

Join the heavenly hosts and all of His angels. Let your praise be blended in with the celestial choir that sings His praise. Accept the invitation to worship, the call to praise Him. And lift up your voice in humble adoration today.
