John 15:9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.
The words we have in today’s verse were spoken by Jesus to His disciples. Though they were spoken by Jesus, we can take the words and apply them in our own lives. We can read this verse as Jesus speaking directly to us because that is how much He loves us and wants us to have a personal relationship with Him.
The love Jesus showed His disciples and the love He shows us today is the same deep, sacrificial, eternal love the Father has for His Son. The Greek word for love is once more agape, showing that this love we all experience is a Godly, sacrificial, unconditional love that is perfect and complete.
The source of the love Jesus showed His disciples was from the Father. The source for the love He has for us is the same. He loves us just as deeply and intimately as He did with His disciples. Isn’t that a beautiful, comforting thought?
But what does it mean to remain in His love?
We remain in His love by continuing to securely rest in the unconditional, perfect love of Christ which means staying connected to Him. We live a life of obedience and seek His will for us. And His love shapes our actions, guides our efforts, and brings indescribable peace and joy to our lives.
One commentary said we abide in His love, “moving-in” and settling into it as one does in a home. It is a love we receive and experience, not something we earn. We cease trying to prove ourselves and rest in the assurance of His love. And His love is constant and divine, like nothing else we will ever experience.
Are you abiding in His love? Seek Him and trust Him to love you with the same love He receives from the Father, the same love He showed for His chosen disciples. He is waiting for you to turn to Him and receive.
Prayer: Lord, Let me experience Your perfect, unconditional love. I want to feel the same love the disciples felt, the same love You feel from the Father. Amen
