A Purpose Driven Life

By: Michelle Allen

Ah, spring! What a beautiful time of year! Just look at all of the creation around you! Birds, bees, flowers, trees, etc. Wow!

Unfortunately, what with finals coming up, and all that, we forget. The beauty no longer seems important. We do not take time to enjoy it because we focus on ourselves. This seems especially true if we have just become adults. This is probably because we wonder what purpose we have in life. Even I ask questions. Who am I? What am I here for? Where am I going? Why did God put me here? Well, if you ask these questions so, here comes the answer you have waited for!

First and foremost, we are here to glorify God. God tells believers in Exodus 20:3: “You shall have no other gods before me.” We were all given some way to do so, so why not use our gifts for that? Then comes what seems to be most important to the world today: Relationships. We were created to have relationships with/love God and those around us. Jesus even guarantees us life for this love. “Do this and you will live” (Luke 10:28) Jesus puts emphasis on this by telling the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:30-37. Jesus asks in verse 36 “Which of these three men do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” The law experts answer that the Samaritan was being a neighbor to the victim here.

Witnessing is another good thing for ourselves and our neighbors. Jesus’ great commission even says: “All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Me.Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).

So, you see, if you need a purpose in life, start here. Who knows what plans God has for you? “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'” (Jeremiah 29:11). The Lord will use you for something wonderful, I am sure. Above all, remember to worship and remember 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you” (1 Thessalonians 5:28), and may you have a blessed day!
