Review:

Though I am not a big fan of seasonal books (such as this, being a Christmas story), I found this book to be heartwarming and engaging. I AM a big fan of historical fiction and can’t seem to get enough of books set in the past, so was interested in seeing what author Julie Klassen offered in this story set in Sidmouth, England. This is a standalone book that returns readers to the quaint setting of Devonshire Shores, where Klassen has created a world of romance, holiday cheer, and tradition with this short novella. In it you revisit many of the beloved characters from previous books in the series, of which this book doesn’t seem to be included (at least not according to Amazon). The characters were well developed and full of life, building an instant connection where you, the reader, couldn’t help but want to see things work out. The romance was easy going and not overwhelming. It was a nice element in the story without overpowering things. There were humorous moments in the book as well as tender, heart touching ones. And the historical aspects were superb, bringing to life a time that is far different from the world we live in today. Though I wasn’t overly excited about a Christmas story, I found this one to be delightful and entertaining. If you love Jane Austen, you’ll love Julie Klassen. Take a look at this short novella and immerse yourself in the world of Devonshire Shores.
