Abortion

By: Jacob Schweda

Ask any mother or father you can find and most will tell you, no matter what their religious backrounds, that childbirth and parenting is truly a miracle and a life changing experience. It is very scary, though, that most western countries (many frequently called the “civilized world”) allow and even support abortion. Countries such as the United States, Canada, Britain and many more provide monetary and legal support to aide women in stopping their future children’s lives from ever progressing and having a chance at life.

There are many reasons given for choosing the drastic way out. Some pregnancies are unwanted, others are (rarely) in existence only because the possible mother has been violated or taken advantage of, and a few people feel they are not ready at that stage of their life for children. As Christians, we face an extreme moral dilemma. About half of all women in the United States who do have abortions do so because they want children later in life, or simply cannot afford one.

He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, (Deuteronomy 7:13). Throughout the entire Bible, examples are given of how much of a blessing from the Lord the ability to bare children is, and how woeful, saddened and upset women were when they were cursed with an unbaren one. Why do we stop miracles from happening? Why do approximately 126,000 unborn children (that’s 46 million a year, more then the entire population of Canada) have their lives grasped from them daily? Many women are victims of terrible tragedies such as rape, but what could uplift the heart of an injured and hurt woman more then a miracle, a blessing? The unborn child in any situation is always the most innocent person! No matter who their father or mother is, they are still creations of God and should be treated as such.

Many Christians have gone to extraordinary lengths to attempt to stop this monstrosity. Many have taken to killing or threatening abortion doctors. This is going to far. Taking the life of a doctor to save the life of a child? We’re not back to eye for eye, are we? Since 95% of all abortions are performed as a means of birth control, a way to literally stop a miracle in it’s tracks, people need to be aware of how emotionally racking the experience can be and how empty life can be without children. We must, as followers of Christ make people aware of the risks. Only God knows what a child will develop into. As far as we can tell, the 126,000 souls who have gone back to heaven today could have been future political leaders, missionaries, peace-makers, doctors or perhaps even researchers that could have found a cure for cancer. The point is that we don’t know, and it’s not our place to decide which lives are important and which aren’t. We must follow God’s example to love and cherish all forms of life, whether alive now or unborn.
