Accountability, and it’s importance

Accountability by Definition
accountability (n) : responsibility to someone or for some activity

By my opinion, the one thing that many people, lack, and essentially helps or aides them to backsliding is the lack of accountability in their life. Many people think, “oh it’s fine, Jesus will tell me when I’m doing something wrong…” and it’s true. Jesus will tell you, but what’s wrong with having another Christian, that you’re close to tell you too? I am not saying that you should go and ask one of your parents to hold you accountable. Most likely, you’ll hide something from them and they’ll never know, unless of course you’re like best-friends with one of your parents, but I am recommending a Friend that’s Christian, or if you’re looking for a higher level of accountability, a non-Christian.

Let me explain my reasoning.

Let’s say you’ve got a Christian friend that’s like one of your brothers or sisters. You tell them everything, and with that he or she gives you guidance or help in certain areas, and you do the same for him. This is how Christians stay strong, and this can help you clean up your act. Don’t get mad at the person that’s holding you accountable for telling you the truth. Accept that, and receive that. Keep a level of holiness in your life.

Now, for having a non-Christian holding you accountable… Sounds dumb, or even stupid doesn’t it? Well, my reasoning is the following: IF A NON-CHRISTIAN SEES YOU DOING SOMETHING AND QUESTIONS IT, THEN MAYBE YOU AREN’T LIVING AS A CHRISTIAN OUGHT… AND THEM POINTING THAT OUT TO YOU OR CALLING YOU HYPOCRITICAL SHOULD BE THE FIRST THING TO MAKE YOU CHANGE!

Whew! Sorry, I had to get that one of my chest… but unfortunately it’s true. Often times, Christians will just take a non-Christian calling them a hypocrite as Persecution, which may also be true, but it could be that one thing that you’re doing that makes them not want to be a Christian, because they know Christians aren’t supposed to be that.

Well, you make the decision! Want accountability in your life? Ask one of your friends…
