Alphabetical Guide to Prayer

This is a suggested guide for prayer. You may follow this guide when you do not have a specific request to pray for others. This list may help you get started and gives scripture verses to use as you pray.

ANOINTING Pray to God for the anointing of the Holy Spirit on us to be operating out of the Spirit’s power, not out of human abilities. (1 Corinthians 1:21-22).

BOLDNESS Pray to God for the boldness of speaking the Word of God. (2 Timothy 1:7).

COMFORT Pray to God for the comfort in those times when we are discouraged, broken-hearted, or stressed so we too can pass that comfort on to others. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

DIRECTION Pray to God that we may be able to sense God’s specific direction in our life. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

ENCOURAGER Pray to God for sending someone to encourage. (Hebrews 3:12-13)

FAMILY Pray to God that we will be able to guide our children in the way they should go and would be the kind of spouse who please the Lord. (Isaiah 40:11 and Ephesians 5:33).

GLORY TO GOD Pray to God that every minute of our day and night will be lived to glorify God. (1 Corinthians 10:31).

HUMILITY Pray to God that we will develop a sense of humility, rejecting pride. (1 Peter 5:5-6 and Proverbs 15:33).


INSIGHT
Pray to God that we will see people and things from God’s perspective (Romans 8:21)

JOY Pray to God that we will be full of the joy of the Lord in all situations. (Nehemiah 8:10).

KNOWLEDGE Pray to God that this Christian will crave the knowledge of God’s Word and apply it consistently. (Psalm 119:105 and Romans 11:33).

LOVE Pray to God for making us as a useful vessel through which God’s love flows to others. (1 John 3:16).

MOTIVATION Pray to God that we will do our work from godly motives, not to please other people. (1 Thessalonians 2:4).

NEEDS Pray to God for the people whom we are praying for will realize that in Christ all of their needs will be met. (II Peter 1:3).

OPEN DOOR Pray to God for the people whom we are praying for will recognize opportunities to share the gospel.(Romans 1:16).

PRAYER PARTNERS Pray to God to provide prayer partners who will intercede on a regular basis for us and others. (II Thessalonians 1:11).

QUIET TIME Pray to God that nothing will get in the way of having a quality quiet time with the Lord each day in which knowing who God is and what He does becomes a priority. (Psalm 46:10).

REVIVAL Pray to God for the work in our life so we will be willing to meet the conditions for personal revival. (II Chronicles 7:14).

SERVANTHOOD Pray to God that we will do our work with a servant spirit. (Luke 17:10).

THANKFUL HEART Pray to God that we will learn to thank God for what He is doing even in difficult situations (Isaiah 30:20).

UNSAVED Pray to God that the unsaved people we encounters will develop a hunger and thirst for Jesus Christ in their lives. (II Corinthians 4:4-6).

VICTORY Pray to God that we shall know the victory in spiritual warfare. (II Corinthians 10:3-5).

WEARINESS Pray to God that we will not get bogged down in having too much to do.(1 Kings 19:7)

X-RAY VISION Pray to God that we will have X-ray vision of the heart to see anything in our life that needs confessing; pray to have a cleansed life. (Psalm 51).

YIELDENESS Pray to God that we shall be completely yielded to Christ, being willing to be dead to self. (Galatians 2:20).

ZEAL Pray to God that we may have a renewed zeal to share the gospel. (Colossians 1:28-29)
