Astrology

by Racquel Vargas

Astrology is so common in our culture that it isn’t even considered wrong anymore. It has wiggled its way into mainstream America passing itself as harmless fun. The truth is that astrology is a religion because it requires faith, a trust in the cosmos to have this sovereign control over our personalities, lives, and destiny. Call me crazy, but that sure looks like religion to me.

Unmasking astrology for what it is, another heresy of Satan, I exhort you, as a member of the body of Christ not to identify yourself with any of the astrological signs. We who place our hope in Christ cannot responsibly consider any faith outside of Christ harmless. Doing so would make us double-minded.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. -James 4:7-8 NKJ

Arguments defending astrology have been that it has “proven” itself as accurate. How easily we are fooled by the same tricks of the enemy. Remember the fortune-telling slave-girl with a spirit of divination?

This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” -Acts 16: 17-18 NKJ

Obviously, this spirit was not of God otherwise Paul would have no need to cast it out. But notice, isn’t it interesting how this demonic spirit is proclaiming truth? Now why would it do that? The answer is simple: to keep its creditability, thus keeping a stronghold over the people. This is called the “8.2 Strategy”,  points truth and 2 points lie. Enough truth to hook, but just enough lie to reel one into hell. This may tamper with the theology of some, but Satan does tell the truth sometimes.

What we must do is discern HOW truth is being used. God and Satan use truth differently. God uses it for salvation’s sake, while Satan uses it for self-glorification. You see, Satan knows that all he has to do is bait us with truth. Once we’re hooked, we place our faith in hisdeception, and will conform our lives to his lies, hence the appearance of a truthful track record. The stronghold is not just having misplaced faith, but once faith is given, we will only see the results we want to see. The heresy is then empowered by the SHEER coincidences it offers.

Let us remember we are not a people who believe in coincidences, but have placed our faith in an Almighty God who perfectly orchestrates all things. We don’t believe we fit into any one personality mold because our God is infinitely creative.

Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. -Psalms 147:5 NKJ

Do we rightly imagine our infinite God possessing a scarce 12 rigid personality molds? Should we dare to believe that God’s creativity is limited to those 12 personality types? We do not rightly imagine. We dare not believe. It is insulting when we do. In nature alone God has thousands of species in plants and animals. Are we not the crowning achievement of God’s creation?

Let’s face facts. We know there are more than 12 personality types. And with this truth we can unveil the real goal of astrology – to conform its believer to the image of the astrological sign. This is a conflict of interest. As Christians, we bear the responsibility to conform ourselves to the image of Christ, and no other.

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29

Being a responsible steward of the gift of freewill, we must be careful not to incorporate this faith with the one we have. Bringing this darkness into our light would cause us to be unequally yoked. Whatever the reason things happen, it has nothing to do with the imagined sovereign control of the stars and their alignment. The danger of astrology when taken seriously is that we must eventually draw the conclusion that the cosmos are truly sovereign. And if THEY are sovereign, why believe in a God at all?

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens all alone, who spreads abroad the earth by Myself; Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, and drives diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolishness; – Isaiah 44:24-25 NKJ

Astrology, like all things belonging to Satan, is meant to belittle the truth and knowledge of God. I can’t tell you how to live your Christian life, but I can tell you this. I, personally, will not be a participant of such idolatry.
