T4JYM: How long have you been a Christian?
BM: Since I was a kid, but where it really got interesting was when I promised the Lord as a teen to always say “Yes” to Him regardless of how weird it was or unqualified I thought I was. That’s when the incredible journey really started. So many Christians say the magic words, get saved, get on the train and just sit there… instead of letting God take them on the trip He’s always dreamed to take them on. And believe me, it’s quite a ride.
T4JYM: What is the most inspirational piece of scripture that you have found that applies to your life?
BM: Can’t help you there. Each year, each month, each week, there’s some new Scripture that I’ve read a hundred times before that suddnely leaps out at me and says, “This is for you, now. Pay attention!”
T4JYM: What is the most fascinating piece of Scripture you have studied?
BM:I read and reread the Sermon on the Mount all the time. Incredible! Wrote a fun book on it called, The Wager where Satan bets God that nobody can live it.
T4JYM: Do you ever feel fear when you approach someone with the Gospel?
BM: Always.
T4JYM: Are you involved in your own home church? What role do you have there?
BM: I work with our high school youth group (about 300 kids) teach on some Sudays, do Bible studies, and mentor a group of 9 boys starting as Freshmen until they graduate.
T4JYM: Are you involved in any other ministries?
BM: Wish I had time, but not really.
T4JYM: What are your favorites books that you have written?
BM: Whew, we’re talking 80 or so. Let’s see, for adults. I really like the “Fire of Heaven Trilogy,” “Eli,” and my new series, “Soul Tracker.” For teens, the “Forbidden Doors” series. And for the kids, the “My Life as …” series. There are samples of all these at www.Billmyers.com
T4JYM: What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career in writing?
BM: Make sure it’s what the Lord wants. He may have wired you for something entirely different that will be a lot more fullfilling and rewarding. If you still feel it’s a yes to write, then write, write, write and write some more. It’s like ice skating, the more you do it, the better you get.
T4JYM: How often do you write books and get them published?
BM: One adult book and a couple kids’ books a year.
T4JYM: What advice would you give to someone interested in publishing their works?
BM: Get Sally Stuart’s The Christian Writer’s Market and start sending your stuff out to the publishers she mentions. And keep at it. Remember, “No,” is just the beginning of getting to, “Yes.” A friend of mine was rejected I believe 13 times before someone finally said “Yes.” His name is Frank Peretti.
T4JYM: What gave you ideas, or made you write, the Forbidden Door series?
BM: Teens are fascinated by the supernatural and there is so much counterfeit junk out there trying to seduce them, I wanted to write a series that kept them turning the pages while showing them the truth.
T4JYM: Who are some of the authors you read? Why do you like their works?
BM: I read a ton of non-fiction for research. Wish I had time for more recreational reading.
T4JYM: What is the last book you read? Did you read it for research purposes or for pleasure?
BM: I probably read 3-5 books at a time. Right now I’m reading about Indian Shamen practices in prep for the third book in my “Soul Tracker” series.
T4JYM: What are your next plans for writing?
BM: I’m just finishing up a piece called, “The Presence,” where people are forced for 72 hours to see themselves as God sees them. It’s quite a ride!
T4JYM: What is generally your target audience? How did you decide on what audience to focus your writing on?
BM: I’m not sure I write for an audience. I love to explore God (if there’s one Person in the universe that shouldn’t be boring it’s Him) and that by it’s nature turns some folks off and some folks on.
