Depression?!

By: Mandy Hughett

Lately, I have seen many emails come in about Depression. I am realizing more and more each day that teens across the world are suffering from Depression! This article is for those of you who know of someone who is depressed or if you yourself are depressed.

First I want to tell you that you are NOT alone!! After doing some research on depression, I have found that many people become depressed, especially through their teen years. Likely you are going through depression because:

  1. You are going through changes with your body
  2.  You are having problems with relationships (boyfriends, girlfriends, parents, etc)
  3. School
  4. Spirituality

Depression is not just caused by those, but mostly I am finding that is the reason for teen depression. However, it could be anything.

No matter what you are going through though, it is important to remember that God is there for you! He loves you very much and He already knows everything you are going through! EVERYTHING!

Philippians 3:14 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It says: “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Pray about what you are going through and what you feel like. And ask God to help you PRESS ON- to help you get past your depression stage. It is possible and people your age are overcoming depression everyday!

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) God has a plan for you-which tells you that you WILL get through being depressed. So why wait around to see if you will get through it? STRIVE to get through it. Pray and worship God as much as you can. The sooner you do-the sooner you can get on with the plan God has for YOU!

Don’t let Satan try to overcome you with depression. God is stronger than Satan and God is on YOUR SIDE! Trust God to take the depression away from you. Pray that He does. He will. Knock on the door and the door will be answered! POUND on that door!! God is there and maybe He just wants you to try harder to seek God. He wants you to really seek Him. This was talked about at the retreat I recently went to. If you are going to seek God, don’t knock lightly, knock hard. Really seek God like you never have before. Beg Him to help you!!

You will get through this!! Stay positive and seek God!
