1 Chronicles 16:10 Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
A few months back we covered the names and attributes of God (available in the devotional titled Hello My Name is… I AM). We learned that names in the Bible were more than just identifiers. They were descriptive, incorporating who the person was, their behaviors, their reputation, and so much more. Names held great significance and knowing this brings about a deeper understanding of the individual.
Today’s verse is a call to worship and an invitation to glory in His holy name. His name is holy, set apart, and wholly worthy of all of our praise. In Isaiah 6:3 we see the angels singing holy, holy, holy…. These beings perpetually glory in His holy name and serve as an example to what we should do.
But doing so means we need to be seeking Him. The verse says let the hearts of those who seek Him rejoice. Is your heart rejoicing? Are you seeking Him? Our hearts will overflow with joy if we seek Him earnestly and worship His holy name.
At this point in the Bible, David was rejoicing at the return of the Ark of the Covenant to the Israelites. The people worshipped in pure joy. David danced in jubilation. The people were overjoyed at the event and their hearts rejoiced.
What about you? What are you doing to earnestly seek the Lord? Are you seeking Him to praise His holy name or are you looking for Him out of a selfish need or answer to prayer? Examine your heart, today, and choose to glory in His name. Then feel the joy well up within you and bubble over as you worship Him.
