Devotion: 1 Chronicles 16:34

Nov. 30, 2025

1 Chronicles 16:34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

We come to the end of our month of thanks with a short, simple verse taken from 1 Chronicles. In it we see that believers should always give thanks to the Lord because He is good and His love is constant and enduring. We develop a mindset of gratitude for God and His actions, for the times He helps us and His enduring, unending, faithful love for His people. His love endures forever.

This verse was part of a larger song that David composed after the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem.  The people of Israel were all rejoicing and singing praises. Their joy was a natural outpouring of thankfulness upon seeing their beloved Ark brought back to the people. God was faithful in returning it to His chosen people and He saved it from enemy hands, just as He has saved us from falling into the enemy’s hands in hell. Like the Ark, we have been saved, purchased by the blood of Jesus upon the cross of Golgotha. He was faithful in David’s time and He is faithful still.

As believers, we recognize and appreciate the blessings God has bestowed upon us and we acknowledge His unchanging love and mercy. His goodness and love are not dependent upon us or our human situations. He loves us regardless. And no sin is so bad that He doesn’t love you despite it. You were washed clean by the blood of Jesus, saved by His sacrifice on the cross. And just like the Israelites who rejoiced at the return of the Ark, we celebrate our salvation and redemption in much the same way – with thanksgiving and praise.

Today and as we move forward, make sure that you give thanks to the Lord in everything you do. He loves you regardless of what you have done or endured and He always will. Give Him thanks forevermore and praise His name each day!
