Devotion: 1 Chronicles 23:30

Nov. 3, 2025

1 Chronicles 23:30 They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord . They were to do the same in the evening.

We continue the theme of thankful prayer with today’s verse. It may seem out of place, as it refers to the Levites and a requirement they had for daily worship. But it gives us another look at why it is important for us to be thankful in our prayer life.

The Levites, the priests of the Israelites, were given instructions to stand each morning and evening to give thanks to the Lord, along with praise. There was a structure to how they were to worship each day and it focuses on thanksgiving and gratitude. And not only that, this was done in community meaning all of the Israelites participated in this process. They all worshipped God twice a day, giving thanks and praises. It wasn’t just the Levites who did it, but the entire community.

This serves as a model for us and our prayer lives. We may not need to stand twice a day to offer our praises and thanks, but we DO need to include them in our prayers. God felt it was important enough to require the Israelites to do it through the Law, and it is important for us to follow His guidance and offer our own thanks and praises.

The act of giving thanks and praises was their way to recognize God’s goodness, seeing Him as the source of all they received. This Levitical duty serves as a timeless example for all believers, Jew or Gentile, and encourages us to live a life filled with gratitude in all circumstances.
