Devotion: 1 Corinthians 10:13

July 1, 2025

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

For those in the USA the month of July brings a celebration of freedom. The 4th is a yearly day of parties, food, and fireworks. As Christians, everyday should be a celebration of freedom because we have been saved from sin and death through the blood of Jesus. In today’s verse we see an encouraging and hope filled promise from Paul that no matter what we face, God is with us and we will get through it.

The life of a Christian is not easy and each of us will face temptation. That is simply the nature of sin. It is a distraction, something that drags us down and binds us in chains of bondage and discouragement. But it doesn’t have to be that way! We can find freedom because God is faithful and we have this promise that He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can handle and has provided a way out. He will carry us through whatever we are facing and guide us to the way out. But we have to trust Him, turn to Him, and let Him be the answer we need.

It is important to remember that He will not always remove the temptation entirely from our life. Instead, He gives us the strength to endure it which results in spiritual growth for us. He uses all things for His glory and that includes whatever you may be facing. The key is to remember to turn to Him, to seek His way, and to let Him empower you in the midst of the struggle.

This month we focus on the freedom we have in Christ. Be a part of the celebration and praise the Lord for breaking the bonds of sin and for saving us from eternal death. Lean on Him in the face of trials and temptations and know that you are not alone and never will be. We have the Spirit with us at all times.
