1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
This verse from 1 Corinthians is taken from a passage discussing the eating of food sacrificed to idols. Though it is in relation to questionable food, the message goes beyond that. It extends to all areas of our lives, not just eating or drinking.
Everything we do, whether consuming food and drink or something else, should be done with one purpose – praising God and giving Him glory. It doesn’t matter how trivial the action may seem, it should always be done with Him in mind. That includes our thoughts, actions, and the choices we make. It should all honor Him.
It is easy to get in the habit of simply going through the motions. That is especially true when we are used to a certain routine. It is then that we need to be intentional with our lives and our behaviors. The choices we make not only determine how we interact with others, but also how we interact with God. Even the tiniest details of our lives should be intentional. They should all honor God.
While we do not have the same struggles as the people in Corinth at the time Paul was writing to the believers, we can still make our every action pleasing to God. We may not have the obvious idols that they did in the city, but we do have idols of our own. Anything that draws our attention away from God can be an idol in our lives. (For example, in my life no matter how much I enjoy writing, I have to be careful that I do not prioritize my writing above other things. I have to be intentional in my choices and make sure I keep God first in everything.)
What about you? Do you have any idols in your life? Purpose in your heart to make God your number One. And be intentional in your choices each day so that whatever you do, it is done to glorify Him.
