Devotion: 1 Corinthians 15:10

Oct. 28, 2025

1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

In this verse we see Paul talking about his own time as an apostle and the work he was doing and had done. You may be curious as to why it was included, other than the obvious use of grace in the verse. Let’s explore what he said and then determine how it relates to us non-apostle types today.

Paul recognizes that he is only who he is and where he is because God showed him grace and transformed him from one who did the persecution to one who received it. He changed him from a man bent on destroying the followers of Christ to the man responsible for a vast majority of the New Testament and a major missionary and church planter. It was God’s grace at work within him, in his life, that allowed him to do the work he did. The Holy Spirit within him empowered and enabled him to do God’s work, which he says he worked harder at than any other before adding that it was not him, Paul, working harder but the grace of God within him.  He recognized that it was all God, not him.

Where are you at in your life? Whether it is where you want to be, thought you would be, or are still striving to get there, it is God who has brought you through it all. It is God’s grace that has rained down on you and worked within you to bring you to where you are currently.

And it is His grace that is still at work in you and through you. His grace is alive and working, and all the more so when we are seeking His will for our lives. Are you letting Him do His work in you or are you trying to work alone? Today is the day to step back and give Him full access to do His will in your life, to let His grace work in you.
