1 Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” – the things God has prepared for those who love him.
In the verses leading up to today’s, Paul is seen teaching the Corinthians about the wisdom of God. He tells of God’s wisdom as a mystery hidden, destined for our own glory (1 Corinthians 2:7). This leads up to our verse for today – the things God has prepared for us.
Human wisdom is limited. It is based only on what we can see, touch, experience, etc. It is not the same as the wisdom spoken of in this passage. The entire passage is speaking of a wisdom far beyond our understanding – that of God. Our hope can be placed on the things He has prepared for us since before time began.
God’s wisdom was there since before time began, waiting for each of us, created for us, ready for us to embrace. And this wisdom includes the sacrifice of His Son for the forgiveness of our sins. God’s wisdom has been planned since the beginning. Though man sinned in the Garden, He made a way to redeem us and bring us back to Him. And that wisdom is also found in today’s verse.
Paul quotes Isaiah 64:4 in his letter. What no eye has seen, no ear heard, no mind conceived… The people of the time of Christ might have thought differently of crucifying Him had they known He was the Son of God. But in God’s great wisdom, something that no human mind could understand, He made a way for us. He chose to let His Son be sacrificed and thus, death was defeated.
Doesn’t that give you hope? He established a way to redeem you from before the beginning of time. He loves you that much. Do you love Him back?
