Devotion: 1 Corinthians 8:3

Jan 29, 2026

1 Corinthians 8:3 But whoever loves God is known by God.

Do you know God? As believers we assume we should. We have placed our hope in Christ and believe He died for our sins, rose from the grave, and sits at the right hand of the Father now. Our hope is in Him and what He offers us – salvation, grace, redemption, transformation. And all we need to do to be known by God is to love Him and His ways.

But can we truly know Him or can we only be known BY Him? We can love Him with all our hearts, serve Him and follow His commandments, but does that signify that we know Him? Or is that simply our obedient response to His law? I ask the question humbly today, not seeking to explain or teach you something new, but to make you think.

How much do you love God? Are you serving Him? Are you following His laws and commands? Are you living for Him or are you living for yourselves?

How do we show that we love God?

We follow His Word. We love others the way He has loved us (1 John 4:11). We live for Him and show our love through our service to one another (Galatians 5:13; 1 Peter 4:10). We honor God by respecting the temple He lives within – our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19) We were bought at a price and because of that we need to respect what we have (1 Corinthians 6:20).

And while we do all of this, we can trust that He knows us and loves us. But His thoughts are not our thoughts, just as His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). Therefore, we strive to be imitators of God (1 Peter 2:21; Ephesians 5:1) and follow in His steps.

We are not perfect, and we WILL make mistakes. But we can trust that He knows us and He loves us regardless of that.

Prayer: Lord, Guide my steps. Let me walk in Your ways, obedient and humble. I love You, Lord, and I want to be known by You. Amen
