Devotion: 1 John 5:2

Jan 31, 2026

1 John 5:2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.

It’s one thing to say we love our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and quite another that demonstrates it instead. Words are just words. But actions speak so much louder.

We wrap up our month of obedience today and hopefully you have grown in your faith, surrendering to God’s will for your life. Our final devotion is written by the Apostle John and centers around the topic of love.

It is through our obedience that love is born. We love God and strive to submit to His will for us. And when we do this we know we love our brothers and sisters. We are commanded to love one another, to carry one another’s burdens, and so on.

As we follow these instructions and commands, being obedient to His calling, we demonstrate love – His love pours out from us onto others. We become witnesses, taking His Word, sharing it with others, living it out, and shining His Light in this dark world. And sometimes we are the only Jesus that others see. Our lives become living testimonies

As you end this month consider all we have covered and what you learned. Pray for discernment in determining what His will is and how you can be obedient in responding. And whatever you do, let Him be glorified.

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for all I learned this month. I want to be obedient to Your will and live for You. Amen
