1 Kings 3:12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
We are all special and totally unique. There is no one like you or me in this world. We may share similarities, but God has made each of us to be different, with different gifts and talents. But can you imagine being so gifted in an area that no one ever was or ever will be like you? That is what happened with Solomon. God rewarded his unselfish request with a wisdom that would never be matched or rivaled.
This passage documents the beginning of Solomon’s wisdom. It was his wisdom that set him apart from every other person in his time and since. He requested wisdom and discernment from God and was blessed so abundantly that he became widely known for it. And through this wisdom he not only influenced others by sharing through proverbs and Ecclesiastes, but was blessed with riches and fame. Everything he had was a result of the wisdom God filled him with.
How does this apply to us today? First, we know He hears us. He listens. He is always there, always hearing our prayers. Second, we know that if we ask, He will respond (John 16:26). This does not mean God is a genie granting our every wish. But He IS a faithful God who wants what is best for us. Through this, the Father is glorified in the Son. Third, even when the answer is not what we want to hear or not what we prayed for, we can trust that God has a plan (Jeremiah 29:11). All we have to do is trust Him and let Him guide our steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Are you seeking wisdom and discernment from the Lord? Ask and you shall receive, seek and the door will be opened (Matthew 7:7).
