1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.
Modern day Christians are in the same boat that many of Peter’s readers were in. We, like most of his readers at the time he wrote, have never seen Christ, yet believe in Him. And from the words he chose to write, it seems that Peter finds this to be somewhat of a wonder. But even Jesus said “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed…” (John 20:29).
When our faith is strong, when we are relying on Him and trusting in Him to be our provision, when we are walking with Him and seeking His will for our lives, it is THEN that we are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy. I don’t know about you, but I love the thought of experiencing joy that is inexpressible and glorious. What great adjectives to describe the joy we can have when we are walking with Him. Though we do not see Him, we have faith. We trust. We seek. And we are filled with glorious joy. Our joy flows from our ever growing, ever changing confidence in Christ.
The love we have for Christ and the faith we experience are not based upon something we have seen with our own eyes. It comes from within us, from what we know of Him, and from the Holy Spirit within us who reveals Him to us as we grow and learn. We have faith based upon what we have learned, what we have read about in the Bible, and what the Spirit reveals to us. And through this faith we experience joy.
I pray that today you would experience joy that is inexpressible and glorious.
