Devotion: 1 Peter 4:8

Feb 28, 2026

1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

As we wrap up the month, we are given yet another day of agape love. We had quite our share of learning about it throughout the month, with the majority of the verses using this form rather than other forms, showing us just how important it is for us to love one another with the same kind of love God has for us.

Peter continues his thoughts from previous verses, so it might be advantageous to read through the passage from which this verse comes to get a better understanding. But above all of the things he tells them prior to this, he says we should love one another deeply  – not just love one another, but deeply. It is a priority and something that should be heartfelt and intense.

He then goes on to tell us that this type of love covers over a multitude of sins. If you are not sure what that means, it does not indicate that love itself offers us forgiveness for sins or wrongdoing. But love does allow us to overlook faults in others. It helps us to choose not to dwell on offenses done against us, but promotes reconciliation instead of revenge. It is through our action of love that we are able to move past the grievances we have against others and forgive.

As believers we are the support system for one another, and our system is built on love. We need to keep love at the forefront of everything and remember it regardless of what we may experience or suffer. Through our community, our local families and church members, we find the support, strength, and encouragement we need to thrive as believers.

Above all else, love others. Love as God has loved you. Love as you have been loved by others within your church and within your own families. Love unconditionally, wholly, and deeply, and as we learned yesterday, God IS love.

Prayer: Lord, Fill me with a deep love for others that allows me to look past things that divide. Let my love cover a multitude of sins. Amen
