1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Our God loves us and wants what is best for us. But He cannot help us if we cling to the things that hold us back and let anxiety hold us captive. He wants us to be free. So how do we do it?
The Apostle Peter tells us we need to humble ourselves in verse six. That does not mean we act like we are less than. It simply means we recognize that God is in control. He is the ultimate power and we need Him.
Once we have humbled ourselves and admitted our need for His help, we are to cast our anxieties on Him. To cast is to throw. This verse literally means throw all our worries, insecurities, struggles, and stress – all the things causing anxiety in out life – on Him and let Him take care of it. Let God carry those burdens for you. You don’t have to do it yourself. He is waiting for you to throw it all on Him. And He is not only willing to carry it all, but fully able to.
It is interesting to note, this verse is not a suggestion. It is a command. God does not want us to be weighed down by anything, so we are commanded to trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5) and to cast our anxieties on Him.
Once we have cast our anxieties on Him, He will give us rest (Matthew 11:28).
