1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
There is nothing sweeter than words of encouragement. Kind words spoken to lift another up and overcome challenges and hardship demonstrate a deeper love and compassion for others. When you are having a bad day kind words can transform your response from negative to positive. They are like honey to the soul, sweet and soothing (Proverbs 16:24).
No one said life will always be easy. Rather we know there will be struggles, trials, problems, pain. Jesus not only told us we would have days like this but followed it up with words of encouragement. He told us to take heart because He has overcome the world (John 16:33). He is with us always, there to support us, to lift us high and carry us through the struggles of the world. We should remember that our struggles are not against flesh and blood but against the powers of darkness and spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). We equip ourselves by donning spiritual armor and encouraging one another.
Being imitators of Christ (Ephesians 5:1), we should follow His example of encouraging others and building one another up. There is power in our words, power to heal and lift each other up. Encouragement gives us hope (Romans 15:4) which keeps us from becoming discouraged and down trodden.
Let each of us follow His example. Continue to love one another with not only our actions, but also our words. Freely offer up words of encouragement to each other. And together we will overcome the world.
