Devotion: 2 Corinthians 5:7

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight.

Any time I have heard this verse before it has been from a different translation. When I memorized it, I did so with the translation “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” We walk, not live. We are being reminded that our life is lived in deep faith and trust in God and His guidance. It doesn’t matter how difficult or unclear things may seem. It is our faith that drives us forward and sustains us through the trials.

It is our faith in God that guides our steps and works out all things for good, both for us and for His glory.  In a previous devotion this month I mentioned that faith is not blind, despite what people say. Our faith is not blind. We see the effects of our faith in our daily living, in all that happens to us, in all we do. We see Him at work. We may not see HIM personally or physically, but we see the results of our trust and faith. And that is what is being referred to when it says we live by faith and not by sight.

Faith is a natural part of our life. We do many things by faith every day. We have faith that the chair we sit in will hold our weight and keep us from falling. We trust that the pilot flying our airplane will get us to our destination. We believe in our cars to get us from one location to another and assume that other drivers will obey the driving laws. We eat and drink foods trusting they will not poison us or harm us, but will give us the life force we need to survive. Life is full of faith.

So why do people have such a hard time putting their faith in God? Why do people think that He will not provide for their needs and give them what they need to make it through their days? I admit that I struggle with trusting His provision at times, but I know He will always be there and will never forsake me. I have absolute faith in Him to do what is best for me, even when my faith sometimes feels shaken or uncertain.

Trust Him for your needs. Let Him guide your steps today and every day. Rely on Him to be the answer you need for the questions and uncertainties you face. He loves you and wants what is best for you. Walk by faith today.
