Devotion: 2 Peter 3:18

Oct. 13, 2025

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

This is the final verse from Peter in both of his epistles. I love how he concluded this letter. He used his final words to remind believers to continue growing in their faith. He specifically pointed out that they should grow in the grace of Jesus and their knowledge of Him. Let’s take a closer look.

When we say “grow in grace” we are not saying you must get additional grace from God. That is simply not possible since grace is not earned and we cannot “get” more grace on our own. What it does mean is that as we are covered by His grace we strive to grow stronger spiritually. We have already received everything we need to grow in grace – the Spirit within us being a big part of that.

The best way we can grow in grace (or under grace if that makes more sense to you) is to grow in knowledge of Him. We should be reading the Word, talking to God and listening/looking for His response, and we should be fellowshipping with other believers. Having a spiritual mentor is a huge benefit in my own life and she helps me stay accountable as well as answers my questions and encourages me to learn more. I highly recommend everyone seek an older, wiser person to be their mentor.

To truly know Jesus, we must understand the relationship we have with Him and what we should do to deepen it. The word “grow” in Greek indicates that it is an ongoing process, not a once and done experience. And our obedience to this command is glory for our God, glory now and forever.

If you are stagnating and are not growing in your knowledge of Him and in His grace then it is time to step up your game. It is time to get serious and make some changes. Remember- it is an ongoing, continuous process.
