Devotion: 2 Samuel 22:29-30

Sept. 14, 2025

2 Samuel 22:29-30 You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

When you are facing difficult times it is easy to question yourself and the purpose God has for you in that moment. But we see from David that God is our strength and guidance in all situations, no matter how hopeless they may feel or how challenging they seem. David trusted in God to be his deliverance, his lamp, his guiding Presence.

With God we can do great things. We can expel the darkness from around us when we turn to Him and let His divine light shine in our lives. We can climb mountains, scale walls, battle against fearsome enemies that seem as if they will devour us. God is our rock. He is our strength, the foundation we set our feet upon.

He has a purpose for our lives, a mighty purpose that has the power to change lives. He changes not only those we encounter and those we serve, but also us. He works in our lives, transforming our hearts and minds, empowering us with His power. His Spirit leads us, His light shining strong and bright in a world of darkness and despair.

Are you turning to God in the dark times and letting Him illuminate your life? He wants you to put your trust in Him. He has a purpose for your life and He uses the darkness to show the world His glory and His purpose. We should be like David, fully and wholly dependent upon Him and His power and might, no matter the difficulties we face.

Turn to Him today. Let Him be all you need, your everything. He is so much more fulfilling than the things of this world. Trust in Him to help you live your purpose in a world needing Jesus.
