Acts 20:32 Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
To give a little context before digging into the message of these words, Paul has spent years with the Ephesians elders and has taught them much. He is now wrapping up his time with them and preparing for the next leg of his journey.
And thus we have today’s verse. Paul commits these elders who he has spent so much time with to God. He knows what any parent knows – eventually the baby birds will have to fly on their own. So he leaves them in the most caring and capable hands of all – God’s.
But he also commits them to the word of His grace. God’s Word. The Bible is His love letter to humanity. It gives us hope, direction, correction, joy… It provides us with everything we need to be able to experience His grace, to be strengthened and built up. It is a spiritual resource and defense against worldly influences.
It points us to God and shows us the path to redemption. The path to salvation and the inheritance awaiting us once we are ready. God has a glorious future in store for those who have been sanctified through Christ, an eternity spent walking with Him.
Just like the elders of the Ephesian church, the Word of Grace is available for each of us. All we need to do is turn to it and receive. Our inheritance is waiting. Will you take hold of it today?
