Acts 9:6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Today’s word comes from a passage in Acts where Saul meets Jesus on the road and becomes His follower. This is the moment Saul was converted and became the Apostle Paul. He abandoned his old life where he persecuted believers and became a disciple, himself.
Paul’s story is an amazing example of the power of Jesus and the changes He can make in one’s life. The story shows us the change from an overzealous man bent on destroying believers and doing the will of the Sanhedrin to a humbled, obedient servant of Jesus – a huge contrast between the two. He was changed so drastically that he was given a new name – Paul. And Paul had a purpose for his life and his dramatic conversion.
The same is true for you and me. We may not experience such a drastic conversion on a street, but we are changed nonetheless. God instructed Saul to get up and go into the city, which is exactly what he did, though he was blinded by the glory of the Lord. He was only told to get up and to go, not given the whole plan and purpose for his life. This tells us that the Lord is directing our steps, whether we see the whole picture in its entirety at the time.
Paul was obedient, and we should be the same. We may not see what His plan is, but we trust He is working and we obey. We follow His guidance, choosing His way over our own. We trust that He has a purpose in mind for us and it will be revealed in due time.
Strive to be like Saul. Let Jesus take your life, worthy and unacceptable, and transform it into something beautiful and acceptable by God. Choose His ways, not your own, and let Him use you for a greater purpose.
