Devotion: Colossians 1:11

Colossians 1:11 …being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience…

Take a few moments to read the verses before today’s, just to ensure you understand what is going on and what Paul is trying to say before he leads into today’s words. You will see that this is part of his prayer for the believers in the Colossian church.

In this prayer, Paul expresses his hopes that they will be strengthened with all power according to His might. It is not through our own might that we find strength and are empowered, but through His glorious might. We depend upon Him and draw our strength from His power, not from within ourselves or through our own efforts.

And it is through Him that we develop patience and endure whatever life throws our way. Through His power we are able to stick it out or hang in there, trusting that He has a purpose for what we are experiencing and He has a plan. His plan is always better than anything we devise on our own (Jeremiah 29:11).

When we face trials or circumstances that leave us feeling lost and uncertain, turn to Him. Give it to Him in prayer, lay it at the feet of the cross. And don’t pick it up again. Let Him empower you with His strength to endure, His patience to keep putting one foot in front of the other. And trust that He will be with you every step of the way.

I echo Paul’s prayer for the Colossian church. I pray that you are strengthened with ALL power, not just some, but ALL. And with all the power that you are given, that you may walk the path before you with strength and endurance, confident that He is with you and has a purpose. Let your patience be full and complete, that your experience would culminate with God blessing your life and your efforts.

Prayer: Lord, Help me to be patient as I walk through these circumstances. Empower me and fill me with Your glorious power and strength. Amen
