Devotion: Colossians 2:2-3

September 27, 2024

Colossians 2:2-3 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

In today’s world we see things that are meant to appeal to us – shiny, pretty things meant to distract us, and beliefs and practices designed to interrupt our walk with God. The enemy has deployed numerous tactics to draw us away from God and His truths. And it was no different for the believers of Collosae. It is for that reason the Apostle Paul wrote to them, from which today’s verse is drawn.

As Christians we should stand firm against untruths and false teachings. We should be in fellowship with one another (Hebrews 10:25), strengthening each other as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), and standing strong against the enemy. By being one in mind and body, we can not only encourage one another but be encouraged ourselves and better know Christ, our source of wisdom and truth.

How often do you make an effort to encourage your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ? How many have you walked through life with, supporting them in the tough times and struggles they were facing? And how many times have you opened up to others and shared your own struggles and life challenges so that they could be there for you? Why do we hide from one another and not share what is going on in our lives? We should be united in love, as Paul says at the beginning of this verse. We should be encouraged in heart and united in love so that we can have complete understanding. If we want to be wise and have godly knowledge, we need to be of one body, united in love, working together.

Today let’s make the effort to embrace our fellow brothers and sisters and encourage them. Let’s show them we care and offer up support and inspiration where they need it.
