Devotion: Colossians 3:12

Feb 11, 2026

Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

If you have read any of the previous devotions I’ve written, you know we have covered today’s verse. But rather than focusing on how we clothe ourselves or with what, we are looking at how we are loved.  As God’s chosen people we are deeply and unconditionally loved by the Father.

God loves us with an all encompassing, whole, complete, unconditional love. The Greek term used for loved is derived from the now familiar agape love. It is in a passive form in this verse, but don’t let that sway you on intended meaning. Paul says we are dearly loved. Not only are we perfectly, unconditionally loved, but he adds a dearly on to further emphasize just how personal this love is.

When a person is deeply loved and understands just how amazing this love is, they will naturally respond in a positive manner. Paul tells us we are to clothe ourselves with the virtues of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We mimic Christ with behaviors that reflect the love we receive from Him.

Our lives also reflect who we are – chosen, holy, dearly loved children of God. We don’t just choose to clothe ourselves with these virtues, but people see His love in us. They see Him reflected in our actions, our speech, and our demeanor. When you are loved and recognize that love in yourself, you have a different look to you, a glow, His light shining through you and radiating outward. It cannot be hidden.

Today let’s stop and praise Him for loving us as deeply and unconditionally as He does. Let’s celebrate the fact that we are chosen. We are redeemed. We are holy. And we are not just kind of loved, we are deeply loved with His perfect love. There is truly no love stronger than His.

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for choosing me and blessing me with such a deep, complete love. Help me to recognize this love in my life so that others see it and want it, too. Amen
