Devotion: Colossians 3:13

May 9, 2025

Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

We are just over a week into the month and again are being told to forgive others. Not only forgive, but forgive as the Lord forgave us. The message has been quite clear this month. As Christians we are to forgive others of the sins and wrongdoing done against us. We are recipients of grace and forgiveness and should extend the same grace and forgiveness to others.

The verse starts out with a simple command – bear with each other. That means we need to have patience with one another and need to be tolerant of actions done against or to us. We make a conscious decision to let go of what injustices we feel have been done against us.  We choose to let go of any bitterness, wrath, anger, or hurt we feel as a result of the wrongdoing. And when we release those emotions, we extend forgiveness.

If you are finding it hard to let go this month, despite all of the times we have already discussed this, it is time to give it to Him. Sometimes it feels impossible to forgive. But remember, we have the Spirit within us guiding us and helping us to love others. That same Spirit will help you to forgive, if you let Him. Cast the burden of injustice, the pain and anger, the inability to forgive on Him and let Him help you. It may mean repeatedly giving it to God, sometimes many times over. But with God all things are possible, including forgiveness.

Just remember – You have been forgiven. Because you have been given this grace, you, too, must offer forgiveness. It is time to heal those pains, to let go, to let God help you move on. Don’t wait. Give it to Him today.
