Devotion: Deuteronomy 10:12

Jan 10, 2026

Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul…

We are a week and a half into our month of obedience and my prayer is you are growing in your faith with each day. Today we return to the Old Testament and the Law to learn more about being obedient.

What does the Lord ask of us but to be obedient. The verse also speaks of fearing the Lord, loving Him, and serving Him – all of which are moves of obedience. All are choices we make daily. All are moves of faith, putting our trust in the Lord who loves us and wants what is best for us. And when we walk in obedience, He blesses us. He rewards our faithfulness with His love and grace. So why do we try to do things on our own?

Fear the Lord. Fear in this case is not an emotional response of fright, but a posture of reverence and adoration. When we fear the Lord we show Him the respect, reverence, and awe that He deserves.

Walk in obedience. It doesn’t say try to walk or think of walking. It says WALK. Go. Do. We must put one foot in front of the other as we step out in faith. And know what? He walks alongside us. In some cases He even carries us because we can’t walk on our own. But we continue to move forward. We continue to choose to take those steps of trust and obedience.

And when we do we show that we love Him. WIth that love comes service because if we are stepping out in obedience to loving Him we will naturally love others, too, and want what is best for them. We demonstrate our love for Him by being obedient and loving others. And we love Him with all our heart, all our soul, with everything within us.

What steps of obedience is He calling you to take today?  Know that the path we walk is one He has already taken and one He has prepared for us. Step out in faith and obedience and trust in His guidance as you move forward.

Prayer: Lord, Guide my steps as I serve You. Let me move my feet in obedience today and every day as I love and glorify You. Amen
