Devotion: Deuteronomy 31:6

March 16, 2025

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.

If you have been with us for other devotions, you know this is a verse we have discussed before. It is a promise we can draw strength from because it is a verse that tells us we have nothing to fear because our God will NEVER leave us nor forsake us.

Today we are focusing on the first statement from this verse – be strong and courageous.

As we have already said multiple times this month, our strength and courage come from the Lord. HE is our strength. HE is the courage we are filled with. He is the One who brings victory and helps us to overcome. He goes with us and will never leave us or forsake us. He is with us now and will always be, no matter what we may face.

To be strong and courageous we have to set aside fear and step out in faith. Fear may still remain there, but it is our faith in Him that directs us to place one foot in front of the other as we obediently follow where He leads. It is our faith in God that allows us to move forward. It is that strength and courage from Him that allows us to overcome our fears and take action.

When fear begins to cloud your vision and halt your progress, stop and remember how far you’ve already come. We are not who we were years ago. We are not who we were just last week! We may not even be who we were just yesterday – as long as we are still trusting God and following Him. Fear has no place in our lives. It should not cripple us and prevent our progress. We have a mighty God who goes before us like a Warrior in battle. And we are called to follow obediently.

Set the fear aside. Acknowledge it and then ask God to strengthen you and fill you with His courage and hope. Trust that He will do so and then set the fear aside and take the first step. Step out in faith in the confidence that He goes with you.
