Devotion: Ecclesiastes 7:11-12

September 30, 2024

Ecclesiastes 7:11-12 Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter, as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it.

What a promise to end our month with – wisdom preserves those who have it. This verse is advice to the wealthy, but it is equally as important for those who do not possess great wealth to pay attention because wisdom is everything. It is far better than money, far better than possessions, far better than status. Wisdom benefits us because it preserves those who have it.

I recently read something that said wisdom can be defined simply as living the Bible. I found that to be an eye opening statement. Wisdom is living the Bible. I can be wise simply by following God’s Word. But that is the key – to follow God’s Word. And to follow His Word we actually have to be READING His Word, and not only that, but reading it regularly.

Wisdom can be compared to things like an inheritance and a shelter. These are good things, beneficial to those who receive them. But wisdom is all the more so. It is through God’s wisdom that we are able to face the hard times, the struggles of life. It is through His wisdom that we can face tomorrow. And through His wisdom we persevere and we overcome! Thus, wisdom preserves us.

Hopefully this month you have learned of the need to humble yourself before the Lord and are ready to do so. Let Him be your wisdom, your knowledge, your life. Seek Him daily. Seek His truth in the Word. Live for Him. And let wisdom preserve YOUR life.
