Devotion: Ephesians 1:6

April 4, 2025

Ephesians 1:6 …to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.

As Christians we hear a lot about grace. We hear of it so much that we sometimes take it granted. We forget just how amazing grace is and what a gift it truly can be. This verse speaks of the grace that was freely given to us. Christ chose to give His grace but we should never forget that grace freely given cost Him His life. Because of this, He alone deserves our praise.

Let’s step back and first define grace. Grace, as it is used in the Bible, refers to the gift God gives us freely. We cannot earn grace. It is not dependent upon anything from us except faith in Christ – we receive grace when He forgives our sins. We are saved by grace, not by anything else we do (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Reading back a few verses to get a better understanding, we find that God chose us. He loves us so much He sent His Son to die for us, to become the sacrifice needed to save us all. And it is this love that allows us to be showered by His grace. We are wholly undeserving, sinful and unworthy. Yet He poured out His grace on us through the One He loves, Jesus.

The least we can do is praise His Name. Today spend some time meditating on His Word. Think about the grace you have been given. Consider the sacrifice He made for you. And then praise God in gratitude for His glorious grace.
