Genesis 50:20 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
We see another instance in history when we had someone who was used by God, placed in their position for a greater purpose. In this case, we have Joseph, one of the sons of Jacob. He had been sold into slavery by his brothers and later found himself in a position of power in Egypt. Because of this position, he was able to save his family and ensure the future of the Israelites.
This passage is a great example of God orchestrating future outcomes, taking something that was meant to be destructive (the brothers selling their younger brother out of jealousy for the love their father lavished on him) and turning it into something glorious, something that showed the world the great, mighty power of God. We see His supreme power to control events and turn evil into good put on display here.
This verse is a great encouragement to me. Though it was spoken by Joseph to his brothers in a time long past, it shows us how God is at work in all of the details of our lives, even those we are unaware of at the time. The current struggles we face are not in vain. There is hope that something will come of them or a way out. God is at work, even when we cannot see it, and we can trust in Him to provide for all of our needs.
There is purpose in our pain, purpose in our struggles, in the trials we face. We grow as a result of what we experience. We develop character with each thing we go through and we can use these to bless others, as well. Let God use the trials in your life to build you into something beautiful and strong. Trust Him to turn adversity into advantage.
