Devotion: Habakkuk 3:18

March 6, 2025

Habakkuk 3:18 …yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

When you read the context from which today’s verse is drawn you see numerous ways the people might experience emptiness and despair. But Habakkuk goes on to say that even though all of this is happening, yet I will rejoice in the Lord. No matter what happens or what trials I face, I will still be joyful in the Lord because He is my Savior.

This is such a strong statement of faith and is one I encourage you to memorize and meditate on regularly. No matter what, I will rejoice in the Lord because He is my salvation. Even in times of want, we can still find joy in life. In times of emptiness and despair we can stand strong and bold in His love, trusting that He will be with us and He has a plan (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Do not let the tears of today, the pain of tomorrow, or the sorrows yet to come bring you discouragement. Stand boldly in your faith and trust in His plan (Jeremiah 29:11). Our God is a God of joy and peace and He is far greater than anything we may be missing or lose during our lifetimes. He is far more precious and He loves us beyond our human comprehension.

Choose joy. Choose to see the beauty that is yet to come, the glory we will experience when we are with Him finally in heaven. Trust that our tears will be wiped dry (Revelation 7:17; Revelation 21:4). Our suffering will end. We have a future with Him and it will be beyond worth it. We just need to hang in there for now and lean on our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and live boldly in our faith.
