Devotion: Hebrews 12:28

Nov. 22, 2025

Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.

Yesterday we explored the indescribable gift of salvation and why we should be thankful for it (2 Corinthians 9:15). Today we continue with that thought, looking at the kingdom that cannot be shaken and our response in worship.

The writer of Hebrews speaks of a kingdom that cannot be shaken. He is referring to the kingdom of God, not a physical, earthly realm. So many believe it is a physical kingdom – it is heaven or heaven on earth. But the kingdom of God is so much more than that. It is the active rule of God over all of mankind. It began with His initial rule over creation in the garden and it is a reign that continues today through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We saw the Kingdom of God come to our world in Jesus (Mark 1:14-15).  And it is a reign that will continue forever, indefinitely, for all of eternity. It can never be broken or ended, a kingdom that can never be shaken or destroyed.

Because we have such a hope, a beautiful, blessed future, we should worship God with reverence and awe. But what does it mean to worship Him acceptably? It means we worship Him with everything we have, everything we are, totally and entirely devoted to Him and Him alone. By giving our all we are acceptably worshiping Him with the reverence and awe He deserves.

During our lifetime and throughout all of history we have seen kingdoms rise and fall, yet the kingdom of God is everlasting and eternal. Daniel said, “The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever” (Daniel 2:44).

Give Him the worship and the reverence He is due. Bow before Him in humble adoration and total awe and let Him know He is the Lord of your life and you serve Him and Him alone. He died for you, redeemed you, saved you from hell. Give Him what He is due as thanks for all He did for you. Show your  gratitude by giving of yourself.
