Hebrews 13:6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
I love this verse. It has so much greatness in such a small amount of words! We have confidence. We have a divine Helper. We have no reason to fear. And we have His protection from what the writer calls mere mortals. Such amazing promises…
If you read this verse in context, as we do with all verses, you will see that it builds on the message contained collectively. We see the emphasis of God’s faithfulness. We see His constant and ever present support for His children, for each of us. No matter what is going on in our lives, God is there. He is ready to help us. He is protecting us and granting us His power to persevere through trials.
We can be confident in believing that He is with us as our Helper. Because of this promise we know that we have no need to be fearful (Isaiah 41:10). Nothing can separate us from His love – NOTHING (Romans 8:38-39).
The author ends this verse with a question – “What can mere mortals do to me?” Man can hurt you, abuse you, even kill you – but he can never take you away from God. He can never stop God from loving you. Of course, we pray that these bad things will never happen, but reality is that we will face hardship in this life (2 Corinthians 6:4-5). Despite this, we have nothing to fear because He is with us. And He will always be there!
Memorize this verse. Remember it when you face trials or persecution. Let it be the song of your heart. The Lord is my helper! I WILL NOT be afraid. Stand strong, friends. Be bold.
