Devotion: Hebrews 4:16

Oct. 2, 2025

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

If you are a long time reader of Teens4Jesus, you know we have studied this verse before. It is a great study because there is so much in it to pull out. Today we look at it with a focus on the topic of grace.

The difference between grace and mercy is often confusing. People use the terms interchangeably, but they are not the same. Grace is the GIFT we don’t deserve and didn’t earn. It is favor or kindness that is shown to us. Mercy, on the other hand, can be best explained as us not receiving the punishment we should have received and deserved. It is like a get out of jail free card. We should be experiencing consequences for our actions, but it has been wiped away instead.

Because our sins have been wiped away and we have been granted the gift of salvation through His grace, we can confidently come before the throne and receive what we need. But what is the throne of grace? A google search and AI results tell us: The “throne of grace” is a metaphor for God’s heavenly presence, emphasizing that it is a place of mercy and blessings, not just judgment.

We can boldly come before God and receive mercy and grace from Him. And we know that Jesus is there, interceding on our behalf, making a way for us. We receive mercy for our past sins and grace for those present needs, as well as the future needs. How amazing is that? Our past is erased and we will receive blessings for our current needs and our future needs. We have no reason to worry about the future or feel anxiety and uncertainty because He is there, on the throne, granting us both grace and mercy. He truly is an amazing God and is worthy of all of our praise and dedication.

Come to the throne today. Present your requests to God, and know that He has heard your pleas. He has heard every prayer and He knows every need. Trust Him to be working in your life.
