Devotion: Hebrews 6:11-12

June 28, 2025

Hebrews 6:11-12 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Today’s verse is a continued thought from verses just prior. Looking back to see exactly what constituted “this same diligence” we see that the author was speaking about salvation and promised God would not forget the good works they had done for others. That “work” being remembered by God is what the author was using to encourage them in their walk.

That same diligence was to be shown not just once or twice but consistently, from now until the very end of life. We are reminded that our salvation is not in question, but should instead be the motivating factor spearing believers forward in their faith and service to others. It was an all the time action, ongoing and unending until the day we see Jesus face-to-face.

We are encouraged to push forward rather than to become lazy. It is much easier to settle into routine and let life simply unfold before you. But we are told not to be lazy, not to drag on sluggishly. We must be alert and ready to serve, ready to give answer for the hope we hold on to.

The book of Hebrews is a great example of pointing out the faith of great names from the past. We see examples of faith in Abraham and his son Isaac, in Sarah waiting on God to give her a child, and so many others. We also have examples in the New Testament, the most influential being the apostle Paul. Paul was not the only one to speak of imitating the faith of others. We also saw it from other books and authors. And we know that each of these great examples of faith have since died and received their inheritance…

Are you an imitator of God? Are you following the example of great people of faith who came before? Seek God with all of your heart, mind, and soul and then love others as God loves us. Serve them. Help them. Walk through life by their side. And feel the joy of obedience fill you to overflowing. Each step you make following in His footsteps is leading you into a deeper faith. Walk on!
