Hebrews 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.
We revisit the subject of remembering no more in today’s verse, just as we have seen day after day how amazing His forgiveness is. Even on days we were being told we are to forgive others, we still see the message of how HE has forgiven us, so we should extend the same grace. Messages like forgiveness and our sins being forgotten are important, so we receive them multiple times to ensure we understand the point.
This verse from Hebrews shows us that we have complete forgiveness of our wickedness and all our sins. Completely forgiven and entirely forgotten. We start fresh, a new beginning, when we accept Christ as our Savior.
As we said in a previous day but which bears repeating, God does not forget our sins. He is all knowing. But He does choose not to remember them. The phrasing used is figurative and is meant to assure us that our wickedness is fully forgiven and our sins not affecting our future any longer.
An important point to understand- Jesus’s death on the cross and the forgiveness of our sins is referred to as the new covenant (agreement). Unlike in the old covenant, the Law, which required regular sacrifices for atonement, we are now under the new covenant.we no longer need regular sacrifices.
Jesus paid the debt once and for all, the ultimate sacrifice that satisfied the blood required for atonement.
