Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.
A few days back we defined transgressions and learned exactly what they were and how we can be forgiven. We revisit transgressions today from the book of Isaiah.
We see in this verse that God blots out our sins. Since we don’t use language like blot any more, it is important that we understand what is being said here. An ink blot is literally a spot of ink that covers, or blots out, something beneath. It completely obscures the original writing. This is an analogy for how our transgressions are dealt with. The sins and wrongdoing in our lives are blotted out, covered by the blood of Jesus.
The verse continues with the promise that He will no longer remember our sins. He is not literally forgetting what we have done because that would be contrary to His nature. He is all knowing, all seeing, omnipresent. He doesn’t forget anything. But He does choose to no longer remember our sins. To put it another way, when He looks at you he sees a righteous child of God who has been redeemed. He no longer sees the sins that were interrupting our fellowship with Him. He chooses to see YOU, the new creation, cleansed by the blood.
If you have strayed from the path and have lost your way, it is time to come back. He wants you restored. He blots out all of your transgressions. Not just some, but all. And He does it because He loves you. He does it for His sake. Yes, it is for us, too, but we are redeemed for HIS sake, according to Isaiah, who spoke words to the Israelites straight from God. In this verse we see a beautiful promise that should encourage us and offer hope that we are truly loved and cherished. We are forgiven, fully and completely.
