Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Sometimes we don’t know what our purpose is or what we are supposed to be doing. But then God calls us and we feel the Holy Spirit leading us to step out in faith and serve Him. That is what happened with Isaiah when he had a vision of God in the temple. He found himself before the Lord and totally unworthy to be there. But an angel touched a coal to his lips to purify him and atone for his sins. It was then that God asked who He could send to be His voice to the people, and Isaiah responded with, “Send me!”
God’s question was not asked in uncertainty of who could possibly go. He spoke His question as an invitation. He gave Isaiah the opportunity to respond to the invitation to be used, to be a servant of the Most High.
This verse shows us that even when we don’t know what our purpose is here on earth, God calls to us with an open invitation. He seeks people to carry out His greater purpose here and now. He gives us the chance to step forth in faith and offer ourselves as humble servants, tools of His greater purpose.
Just like with Isaiah, we have the opportunity to respond. We can ignore His invitation and can continue along in our lives wondering what we can do to be used by God. Or we can say, “Here am I! Send me!” Our voluntary servitude demonstrates our total commitment to His will and our willingness to step forward allows us to show our gratitude for the grace we have received.
Let Isaiah’s response be your own. Heed the call of the Lord and offer up yourself as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). Let Him use you to fulfill His purposes on earth and trust in Him to guide you and empower you in all you do.
