Isaiah 61:10 I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and a bride adorns herself with jewels.
I love the start of this passage. I delight GREATLY in the Lord and my soul rejoices. Total JOY. We don’t just delight in the Lord. We delight GREATLY in Him. And it isn’t just simply delighting, but it is a joy that comes from deep within, down to the soul. Talk about some intense joy and delight! Hopefully you are filled with joy as you read this verse today.
The rest of the verse shows us WHY we should be feeling such amazing joy. We next see that our joy and delight comes from gratitude for how He has clothed us. We are clothed with garments of salvation and robes of righteousness.
What are garments of salvation and robes of righteousness? These are figurative expressions that are associated with living a life that is good, one that is holy. We are redeemed, saved, then wrapped in righteousness, a new creation, blameless and upright. His blood washed us clean. When we are clothed in righteousness, God sees us as pure and blameless. And we can only be clothed this way when we ask Jesus to forgive our sins and be Lord of our lives.
It is my prayer that today you would delight greatly in the Lord and let your soul rejoice. We are clothed in garments as beautiful and joyful as wedding attire, prepared for a festive celebration of salvation and rejoicing. May we overflow with joy and delight.
