Devotion: Jeremiah 31:3

Dec 10, 2025

Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

We explored the topic of unfailing kindness a few days ago when we looked at 2 Samuel 22:51. In it we learned that no matter how sinful we are, no matter how far we stray before coming back, no matter how unworthy we are to receive His grace and forgiveness, He STILL shows unfailing kindness towards all of His children.

Today we look at another verse that speaks of His unfailing kindness. Jeremiah said that God loves us with an everlasting love, and He draws us to Himself with unfailing kindness. His love isn’t temporary or conditional. Rather, it is perpetual and enduring, which is a core attribute of our God. And His love is expressed through steadfast, loyal kindness, which draws us toward Him where we find everything we could ever need or want and so much more.

I don’t know about you, but I find great joy in this verse and the love He shows to us. It is comforting to know His love is unconditional and everlasting. And through this amazing love, He draws us close to Him where we find kindness beyond our comprehension.

So many people think God is a judging, unfair, or mean God, but the opposite is true. He is loving, giving us chance after chance after chance to repent and make changes in our lives, always forgiving and always providing. It doesn’t matter how bad we are, how many times we fail, He loves us with an everlasting, unconditional love and showers us with kindness beyond measure. Yes, He judges and can be strict, but that is because He wants holy, righteous children and He is a fair God who does not accept sin. He is no different than our earthly parents who love us no matter what we do, though we might disappoint them at times.

Today, let Him draw you in. Let His kindness pull you toward Him. There you’ll find peace, joy, and love that is unmeasurable. Turn from your sins, your earthly habits and shortcomings, and turn to Him to be filled to the point of overflowing. He offers this and so much more.
